The UCSF Health Bayfront Urgent Care Clinic, which opened in August 2024, provides evaluations and treatment for serious yet non-life-threatening medical problems in adults age 18 and older.

We ask that you arrive 20 minutes before your appointment for check-in and initial evaluation. Wait times for walk-in visits vary, so we recommend scheduling an appointment whenever possible.

The location includes on-site X-ray and ultrasound services; an outpatient surgery center; and access to a wide range of specialists.

If you think you might be experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Our emergency department is open 24 hours every day.

Where to go: emergency care or urgent care?

Go to the emergency room or call 911 for:

  • Chest pain
  • Coughing up blood
  • Difficulty seeing, speaking or breathing
  • Head injuries
  • Seizures
  • Severe injury or bleeding
  • Sudden dizziness or fainting
  • Unusual behavior or confusion

Urgent care can help with the following:

  • Asthma attacks
  • Cough or sore throat
  • Ear pain
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Migraines and other headaches
  • Minor burns
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
  • Painful urination
  • Respiratory infections
  • Skin infections

Make an appointment with your primary care provider for:

  • Physical exams
  • Routine wellness needs
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic disease management

Insurance and self-pay

Insurance coverage: Before your appointment, please contact your insurance carrier to verify that UCSF is an in-network provider for your plan. Your insurer can also tell you whether your plan requires that you reach an annual deductible before it pays for your visits.

Self-pay visits: If you're unable to obtain a referral or authorization for your appointment, or if you choose to pay for your visit yourself, you will need to make a deposit at the time of your appointment. This is a deposit only and doesn't include fees for any tests or procedures. You'll receive a bill in the mail for the amount owed for your visit and services received.

  • New patients: $232 deposit
  • Established patients: $156 deposit
  • Non-U.S. residents: $422 deposit

Transportation

There are several ways to get to the Bayfront Medical Building. Consider public transportation, including the Muni T Third Street line or free UCSF shuttles. Learn more about public transit options.

If you plan to drive, your parking options include:

  • Valet services at 520 Illinois St.: No additional cost for valet beyond the regular hourly parking rates. Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Self-parking at 590 Illinois St.: Pay on arrival at pay stations on the garage ground level using your license plate number or the PayByPhone app. Download the PayByPhone app and use location number 401610 (or 4131, which requires a disabled person placard or license plate).

Allow extra travel time for Chase Center events

The Bayfront Medical Building is located near the Chase Center, where events may impact traffic. Please check the Chase Center events calendar and allow extra time for your commute if you have an afternoon or evening appointment.

Building entrance information

Monday through Friday: You may use any building entrance.

Saturday and Sunday: Use the urgent care entrance at 520 Illinois St. All other entrances are closed.
